Jubilee Park lies between Buckingham Drive and the Black brook and the main park for Thorpe Acre.
It meets many needs but has been neglected in the past.
It was named at the Queen's 25th Jubilee. It has different play areas for each age group, the larger one being a MUGA (Multi-Use Games Area).
A set of outdoor gym facilities have been installed at a cost of £20,000 in 2019.
The Swithland Close side remains waterlogged for much of the time and some signage and structural improvements are needed.
I value your feedback on any facilities installed by Charnwood or lacking in the area generally.
Thorpe Acre Green has improved by the planting and care of volunteers including the Thorpe Acre Community Association (TACA). This group meets informally, usually on Wednesdays at the Scout Hut. All welcome. The Thorpe Acre vllae sign is made of oak grown on the Garendon Estate and erected as part of the Millennium celebrations. The mosaic is by Gerry Hutchinson. |
Larkin Lane
After a long battle, I persuaded the Borough Council to do something permanent to
lift the blight on the land contained by Wordsworth, Browning and Tennyson Roads.
As a result bungalows for the elderly have been built and named Larking Lane, after the Poet Philip Larkin.
A number of badly needed houses are to be built on the land, partly by creating an entrance where No 17 stands currently.

Play-area, Wordsworth Road
If you live on Wordsworth Road, you'll probably remember the Council suggested that it could be used for a small playground. After writing to everyone on the road and talking to residents most of you felt it was not the right place. It will therefore remain as a grassed area for the moment.
Refurbishment of Council owned dwellings
All council housing were brought up to the Labour Government's "Decent Homes" standard. This included new windows. Please contact me if you feel your home has been missed.
